Description:  2019 Annual Heroes in Medicine Awards honors local individuals and organizations who provide extraordinary services that address or have responded to health care needs in the county, the nation or around the world.

Who: Heroes in Medicine Host Committee, under the leadership of Chair John Dalton and Co-Chairs Judy Dunn and Gregory Cotes, includes former Heroes along with 40 plus volunteers from Palm Beach County.

How: From the nominations received more than 30 teens and adults will be selected as 2019 Heroes in Medicine and one will be selected as the Hero of the Year.  All those selected will be honored at the awards luncheon and the Hero of the Year will be officially announced at the luncheon. Approximately 500 guests will attend the luncheon.

What: Reception and silent auction followed by lunch and awards ceremony. Sponsorship and ad opportunities. Tickets are $125.

Why: Event’s net proceeds support Project Access, a physician-led network of care linking physicians and other health care providers, offering comprehensive care at no cost to local, uninsured children and adults and other services of the PBCMSS.

How effective is Project Access? Last year 1,500 individuals were provided services, over $12 million in free care has been provided to date and every $1 supporting Project Access generates $8 in free medical care.

Who is Palm Beach County Medical Society?PBCMS, a 501(c)6 not for profit organization, is dedicated to uniting physicians to serve the common interest of the profession, developing and maintaining the highest professional and ethical standards of the medical profession, advocating the interests of physicians and their patients and collaborating with others to improve the community’s health.

Who is Palm Beach County Medical Society Services? PBCMSS, a 501(c)3 not for profit organization, provides and coordinates continuing medical education for physicians and allied health professionals, informs and educates the public on health care issues, improves patients’ access to health care, collects and studies information on the health care delivery system and recognizes groups and individuals who strive to improve the quality of healthcare in Palm Beach County.

Hero Award Categories

PHYSICIAN-MD or DO who has contributed significantly to betterment of health care locally, nationally and /or internationally.

BRUCE RENDINA PROFESSIONAL-individual whose profession is an integral part of the health care system but is not a direct provider of patient care.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH WELLNESS/PREVENTION-paid or volunteer health care or non-health care individual(s) or professional(s) who has and/or group(s) who have devoted time, skills and/or other resources to assist others and/or contribute to the betterment of health care. 

HEALTH CARE EDUCATOR-physician or other educator who has made outstanding contributions to health care education in the County.

HEALTH CARE INNOVATION-individual or company who has been primarily responsible for development and implementation of scientific advances.

HEALTH CARE PROVIDER (non-physician)-individual or group of individuals who may directly provide healthcare and have provided services and/or programs that have gone “above and beyond”.

COLLEGE/MEDICAL STUDENT-college or medical student or group of students who have made outstanding commitments to health care.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT-high school student or group of students who have made outstanding commitments to health care.

PROJECT ACCESS-MD, DO, hospital, medical group or facility who through Project Access has donated time and services.
