Our Role
PBCMS’s Ethics & Judicial Committee is a peer-review body composed of physicians from a variety of specialties who meet on a case-by-case basis to review complaints filed against PBCMS member physicians practicing in Palm Beach County.
It’s important to note that while this committee can review and make recommendations, PBCMS does not have the authority to impose disciplinary action or restrict a physician’s license. For matters of professional licensing or discipline, you must contact the Florida Board of Medicine. Their toll-free number is 1-888-419-3456.
Before You File a Complaint
We strongly encourage you to speak directly with your physician first and attempt to resolve your concerns informally. Many disputes arise from communication breakdowns, and having that conversation first may help clarify misunderstandings or resolve issues more quickly.
How to Submit a Formal Complaint
If you’ve already spoken with your physician and the issue remains unresolved, you may submit a formal complaint. Please follow these steps:
- Download and complete the complaint form, along with the Consent & Authorization form. (A parent or legal guardian must complete the form if the patient is a minor; a conservator or power of attorney must complete the form if applicable; an executor may complete the form if the patient is deceased.)
- Provide any supporting documents such as letters, records, or other relevant information.
- Submit the completed forms and documentation via mail to:
PBCMS – Ethics & Judicial Committee 3540 Forest Hill Blvd., Suite 101 West Palm Beach, FL 33406
- Once received, your complaint will be logged and your physician will be invited to provide a written response. The committee will review all submitted information at its next scheduled meeting.
- After review, both you (the complainant) and the physician will receive the committee’s decision in writing.
- Timeline: The review process typically takes 90 to 180 days, depending on the complexity of the case.
What We Cannot Handle
- PBCMS cannot help with billing complaints or issues related to charges and payment. Those complaints should be directed to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services at 1-800-435-7352 or visit www.800helpfla.com.
- PBCMS staff are not medically trained and cannot give medical advice or diagnose conditions. They support the complaint process administratively and ensure confidentiality.
