Heroes in Medicine Awards

Heroes place the needs of others above themselves and have made significant, positive impacts on the people or communities they serve.

Palm Beach County Medical Society Services, a nonprofit organization, is proud to host its 18th Annual Heroes in Medicine Awards ceremony Virtually on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 6:00PM. These prestigious awards honor people throughout Palm Beach County who use their skills and resources to provide outstanding services. Proceeds from the event benefit Project Access, which provides health care for low income or uninsured residents of Palm Beach County, and other services of the Medical Society.

Nominations must be received by Friday, March 12, 2021 at 12:00pm.  No late nominations will be accepted. If not a self-nomination, please inform the nominee as they may be called for clarification of the application and/or for an interview.  One nominee will be selected in each category. 2021 Heroes in Medicine Finalists will be interviewed on Saturday, April 3, 2021.

Award Categories

Physician Herois an MD or a DO who embodies the characteristics of skill, compassion, and dedication to the ideals and beliefs of the profession and has contributed in significant ways to the betterment of health care locally, nationally or internationally.

Bruce Rendina Professional Herois an individual whose profession is an integral part of the health care system but is not a direct provider of patient care. This person has used their knowledge and abilities to improve the health of local, national, or global communities in a tangible way. Nominees may include advocates, administrators, and others.

Community Hero is a company, institution, organization, agency, or a paid or unpaid volunteer health care or non-health care individual(s) or professional(s) who has devoted time, skills, and resources to assist others and contributed to the betterment of health care.  This may include programs supporting training or educating people on how to improve daily choices, prevent illnesses, access local resources, or improve the overall quality of life.

Health Care Educator Herois a physician or other educator who has made outstanding contributions to health care education in the County.

Health Care Innovation Herois an individual or company that has been primarily responsible for development and implementation of scientific advances that have substantially improved quality of life. This can be the invention of a new device, process, or service.

Health Care Provider Hero (non-physician)is an individual or group of individuals who may directly provide healthcare but are not physicians and have provided services or programs that have gone “above and beyond” by contributing to the betterment of healthcare.  Nominees may include, but are not limited to, nurses, PAs, dentists, pharmacists, midwives, social workers, paramedics, chiropractors, therapists, care coordinators, etc.

Tulisa LaRocca, MD Leadership Hero is an individual who shows exemplary leadership that has a significant and positive impact on health care, demonstrates a unique ability to guide and inspire others, mentors and cultivates, and contributes to the success of an initiative.

Project Access Hero is an MD, DO, hospital, medical group or facility that has donated time and services through Project Access and embodies the characteristics of skill, compassion, and dedication and has contributed in significant ways to the betterment of health care locally.
